JOB TITLE: ARCHITECTURAL ASSISTANT (RIBA PART 1)

                     YEAR OUT PLACEMENT

Main Purpose of Job

To assist in the execution of commissions both large and small from inception to completion.

Core Responsibilities, tasks and duties

·         Working under the guidance of a Senior Architect or Senior Technologist, to perform the following tasks:

·         Assist in measured surveys of buildings

·         Prepare drawings using the measured survey information using CAD software (ArchiCAD etc)

·         Prepare sketch plans for smaller projects

·         Assist in the preparation of construction drawings.

·         Assist in the preparation of contract documents.

·         Attend site meetings and visits during the contract stage of projects in the company of a Senior Architect or Senior Technologist to assist in the recording and oversight of the works.

 Qualifications

The Architectural Assistant will hold a degree qualification in architecture and RIBA Part 1 qualification.

The Architectural Assistant will be working towards RIBA Part 2 qualification and ultimately full membership of the RIBA and / or ARB.

The Architectural Assistant must maintain a CPD Record in accordance with the requirements of the RIBA. Attendance at courses will be agreed with the Practice’s CPD Co-ordinator and any fee payable will then be met by the Practice.

JOB TITLE: APPRENTICE BUILDING SURVEYOR

Main Purpose of Job

To assist our Conservation Architect and Surveyor with surveys; undertaking measured surveys, condition surveys mainly in the conservation sector.

Core Responsibilities, tasks and duties

·         Working under the guidance of our Conservation Architect and Surveyor to perform the following tasks:

·         Assist in measured surveys of buildings

·         Prepare drawings using the measured survey information using CAD software (ArchiCAD etc)

· Assisting with the writing, formatting and proof reading of inspection reports

·         Draw up sketch plans for smaller projects

·         Attend site meetings and visits during the contract stage of projects in the company of an Architect or Building Surveyor to assist in the recording and oversight of the works.                       

Qualifications

Preferred:

HNC/HND Building Studies - Merit/Distinction

GCSE Maths and English - Grade C and above

Training Provided

As part of this Job, the successful candidate will be required to study toward the completion of an Honours Degree. As part of this training, they will be required to attend 1 day release part time RICS accredited Honours Degree Course at either Leeds Beckett or Sheffield Hallam Universities as part of the Government Apprenticeship Scheme. The successful applicant will also be expected to undertake further study in their own time. 4 days a week during term time will be spent working from our office on the University of York Campus, and 5 days a week non term time. There will also be on the job training in the office and on site.
